Week 5 blog post

Hello Again Everyone-

Guess what I learned to do this week? I made a wiki and was able to embed a video into it! Oh well, that might not seem like an amazing breakthrough in technology, but for me this was an accomplishment considering my week of computer trouble, browser trouble (thanks again Pamela and Dr. T for your help!), and a zillion other little things that helped to frazzle my week. With all of that, making this wiki was a bright spot and a feeling of accomplishment for me. In addition, I now have my kids skyping with their grandfather who has never skyped before. It has been a busy week. In reflection, I feel pleasantly overwhelmed with all of the new technology I have been able to experience and all of the new tips on technology related websites that I have been able to share and learn about from the folks in this class. I can only imagine what lies ahead in the coming weeks and I am looking forward to it.

Drop me a line when you get the chance. I'd love to hear from you.

Deb

Sounds like a good week of technology. I set up my bluetooth and mike so I can do audio. It took hours. I need to learn how to do video in blogs and powerpoint. How did you learn how to do it. I forever feel like I wish I had someone to teach me.

Hi Deb and Susan,

Congrats on setting up the wiki Deb and for setting up the bluetooth for audio Susan.

I believe skyping is difficult for me because I stop working at 6:00pm EST every night and then I will see that people were chatting way after that. However, I use my skype daily with using it as a telephone. I pay the little extra to call from my computer to someones landline. It's so much better that a landline or cell phone, but it is strange talking to the computer when another person is on a landline or cell phone. It's also a good tool to use when on a conference call like a webinar.

Have a great day!

Did you use Wiki.com or wetpaint to upload your movie?

I'm glad you problem got solved. I know the feeling when something is finally working. I have those ups & downs with my tool constantly. My mom and I use AIM to chat instead of Skype. Since we both have AOL email accounts, it was just easier. AIM allows for text messaging to cellular, you can upload videos, files, or pictures. You can talk on the internet like Skype. Just something to keep in mind if your computer is having problems with Skype. I use both.

I did have a good technology week, but it was tough. I am still in the learning process when it comes to video in blogs and powerpoint. I have been working with powerpoint conversion tools. Chesk them out on my wiki at http://dlpphd.wikispaces.com/
